Frequently Asked Questions
Can I return the vehicle outside of business hours?
A vehicle can be returned outside of our business hours. There is a drop-off box in which you can deposit the keys. However, returning the vehicle after-hours does not end the rental contract and the customer is still responsible for the vehicle until it has been checked in during business hours.
Can I drive the rental vehicle outside of British Columbia?
Yes, you can travel to permitted regions outside of British Columbia with the authorization of the Lo-Cost Rent-A-Car front desk. A small border fee may apply to your rental contract if you are traveling to the United States.
What happens if I get a parking or traffic ticket?
Customers are fully responsible for any parking tickets they receive and for any traffic violations they commit during the rental period. If not paid by the customer, the amount of the fine is processed onto the given credit card along with a processing fee.
What if I need the car for longer?
The duration of the rental agreement is that which is requested in your original reservation and you are responsible to return the vehicle on or before the time specified on the contract. However, in the event of an unforeseen change of plans, please give us a call and we will try our best to accommodate your needs.
What if the owner of the credit card is not the renter?
To rent as a third party member, the cardholder must be present at the time of the rental along with valid photo identification and a valid credit card.
Can I add an additional driver?
Yes! We require a copy of any additional driver’s licences at the time of rental. They can be brought in if the said driver isn’t present. An additional driver surcharge may apply.
What type of insurance do you offer?
The renter is responsible for any vehicle damage or liability that occurs during the rental period. Lo-Cost Rent-A-Car offers a variety of Collision Damage Waiver and Supplemental Liability insurances that limit you from the responsibilities therein. Your personal car, home or credit card insurance may provide some coverage. Make sure to double check with insurance agency. The costs of any damage not covered by your personal insurance will be your personal responsibility. Deductibles vary with every rental; contact us for more information.
What happens if I want to cancel?
Lo-Cost Rent-A-Car requires a notice at least 48 hours ahead of the scheduled pick up time to avoid a cancellation fee. Customers failing to show up for a reservation will automatically have a minimum fee of $75 charged to the credit card provided at the time of the booking. Feel free to contact us for more information.
How old do you have to be to rent a car?
You need to be at least 25 years old to rent a car. However, younger drivers between the ages of 21-24 can rent with an applied daily surcharge. Charges vary depending on vehicle class and rental duration.
What do I need to rent a car?
Lo-Cost Rent-A-Car requires you to possess a valid driver’s licence and a major credit card with at least $500 of funds available. The cardholder needs to be present at the time of rental even if they will not be the authorized driver.
How often do rates change?
Like all car rental companies, Lo-Cost Rent-A-Car’s rates are subject to change at any time. We attempt to provide you with the best value every day. Once you confirm your reservation, your rate will be final.
Can we rent a car by the hour?
